Get Yourself The Best Fixed Roof Ladder Access System!

The primary concern of climbing over any rooftop is safety. Having the right access system ensures complete safety for those who are working at heights. The fixed roof ladder access ensures that safety. With the stable design and rugged materials used, it provides stability while climbing.

The authorities have published an updated regulation for the same as well. The OHS policy body published a revision of the model code of practice which ensures the management of falls in the workplace. It demands the ladders to meet the code of AS 1657. This would ensure that it reduces the falls turning into fatalities in the workplace.

A Few of the Regulatory Requirements Are as follows:

  • At the top of the ladder- The entry gate, which is inclined fixed rung and is fitted with the ladder, is now being fixed away from the ladder.
  • The spacing of the rungs- The spacing of the rungs should be even. Studies suggest that the design of the rungs also influences the safety of the same. The rungs should not be too close, neither too far away.
  • The design of the rungs- The design of the rungs is equally important. It ensures that the grip is maintained whilst climbing up or down the ladder. Ant slip on any one of the rungs can become fatal. So, a design that offers a good grip is a must.

These are the regulations made by the government to ensure the safety of the climber. This makes these requirements very necessary and makes the ladder qualified enough to become a safe fixed roof ladder access.

There are many types of fixed roof access ladders available, ready to provide unhindered and safe access. They are broadly classified into two categories, which are-

  • Angled fixed roof access ladder
  • Vertical fixed roof access ladder

They are further classified into their subcategories. The subcategories are as follows-

Angles Fixed Roof Access Ladder

  • Angled fixed roof ladder: These ladders are angled at a certain degree and are provided with handrails to climb easily. This ensures that the person climbing can go up and come down easily. These are mostly used in building with about 6-8 floors.
  • Angled ladders with lead on handrails: These are ladders for construction sites. When someone is carrying something heavy, they ensure stability to the person. This, in turn, also ensures that the person can carry on with their work safely.
  • Angled fixed access to the roof with parapet mount: This type of ladders comes into play when the roof's wall is at a higher level than the ground level of the roof. This ensures that the base of the ladder is fixed properly into the ground. It facilitates anyone who is climbing up or down the ladder.

Vertical Fixed Roof Access Ladder

  • Vertical ladder with grab rails- These are the most basic form of ladders available with grabrails.
  • Vertical ladder with parapet mounts- When the roof wall is higher than the roof floor, it is used for a strong mounting. It provides a safe passage.
  • With roof hatch access- When there are no stairs to go to the top, and the roof has to be accessed daily, these ladders come to play. They allow the person to climb up to the roof easily and are mostly used in factories.

A caged fixed roof access ladder is another type of ladder that has a cage surrounding it. It is placed in a building where they are the only access to the roof, and the buildings are too high. They ensure the safety of the climber with a cage surrounding them.

Hence, this shows that the safe fixed roof access ladder is decided upon according to the use and the safety it requires. Make sure that while choosing any type of roof access system, you have to choose the one which is of the best quality and is of high strength.
