All You Want To Know About CNC Plasma Cutter

A CNC Plasma cutter is a machine which can be controlled by a computer. These are used instead of handheld plasma torches in metal fabrication. The full form of ‘CNC’ is ‘Computer Numerical Control’ as these are created for automated cutting. They operate through a direct cask torch which is held by a machine and monitored by a computer. These machines can cut thin and thick metal sheets in angular or curved forms. Metals can be of any type such as steel, aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel bolts, pipes and other conductive metals.

Existence

In 1960’s, plasma cutting came into existence due to plasma welding. In 1980’s, it developed as the prolific way to cut metal sheets and plates. These machines are better than the conventional method as they need no metal chips. Unlike oxy-fuel cutting, this machine makes perfect cutting with neat edges. In the past, plasma cutters were huge in size, pricey, sluggish and handled for cutting large quantities. These cutters are utilized in making enhancive metalwork for commercial and residential purposes, wall art, outdoor gardens and address signs.

Usage Techniques

  • CNC plasma machine is a genuine organizer created for automated machine tools with user interface panel and controls.
  • You can use a Windows laptop and connect your CNC to the internet using the Ethernet port.
  • The movement of the machine is controlled by a part program which is a text file with “M-codes” and “G-codes” which helps in operating the machine.
  • It requires drive system with drive amplifiers, encoders, motors, and cables.
  • Both X-axis and Y-axis cutters have encoders, which produce digital signals to specify the mobility of the machine.

Comparison with Hand Held Machines

  • These machines use the mechanical system rather than hand-held cutting machine purposes.
  • Automatic plasma system utilizes direct barreled torch to cut metal sheets rather than cutting them by hand.
  • Unlike manual cutters, these machines can be used to cut large quantities and increase production, boost flexibility, security.
  • For cutting an outstanding Gouging instrument, for back-gouging joint solder, to detach faulty joints, manual torches are the best choice compared to the automated ones.

CNC Plasma Cutting Patterns

CNC Plasma Cutting Patterns are divided into three patterns. 2 Dimensional Plasma Cutting is the normal and traditional type of plasma cutting. The cutting edges are 90 degrees to the metal exterior. Eminent powered plasma cutting bases are organized to cut the shape required from the metal sheet. 3 Dimensional Plasma Cutting process is used to cut sheets in 30 -45 degrees with an extra axis of rotary motion. This method is used to cut countersunk holes and chamfer ends of shaped holes. Tube and section plasma cutting is used to cut materials in angular shapes by rotating the angles.

New Technology

These plasma cutters are dedicatedly used in HVAC industry. This expertise has increased the output of the commerce from its initiation in 1980’s. This technique went through a lot of changes and has developed more than earlier. In the past, the cutting tables were horizontal, but now vertical cutters are available in the market. You can add other secondary systems and attributes like voltage control techniques, plasma bevel operatives and built-in plasma systems and others. The basic usage instructions will be same for all CNC plasma machines from the easy to the difficult ones.

Initially, plasma cutters were costly and due to this, they were seen in qualified fabrication shops, high earning private garages and shops. But nowadays, plasma torches are now inexpensive and are in reach of common people who cannot afford expensive goods. Some of the older units are massive in size and are movable. New machines with inverter automation weigh lesser and are better than the older ones with exceeding capabilities and good performance.
